Brand, mount type, sensor size - there's a lot to consider when buying a camera! Here are the basic types we offer:
With their smaller size, convenient electronic viewfinders displaying menus and ever-improving video specifications, it's no wonder everyone is switching to mirrorless cameras!
Every year, brands like GoPro push the boundaries of what you can do with these palm-sized devices. With the right accessory, you can now record from any vantage point you can dream of.
We consider that Hybrids have won the battle against DSLRs... Although many DSLRs are of excellent quality, we have made the choice at Boookable not to own any.
Each camera offered is different and one of the most important point to know before buying a camera is the size of the sensor, so here are the 2 most common sensors nowadays.
What are APS-C and Full-Frame sensors?
Every digital camera is equipped with a sensor. It captures the light that passes through the lens and processes the information to create an image. In analog cameras, light passes through the lens and hits a segment of film, reacting with the film emulsion. But the film and emulsion have been replaced by a solid-state device that reads the light information digitally.
Consumer camera sensors come in two main sizes. There is the APS-C sensor, sometimes called the crop sensor. And there is the larger, full-frame sensor. Neither is inherently inferior to the other. But there are some notable differences.
APS-C is the abbreviation for Advanced Photo System-Classic. The name comes from the fact that the sensor is the same size as the Advanced Photo System film type in the classic format. It measures 25.1 x 16.7 mm with an aspect ratio of 3:2.
In other words, an APS-C sensor is smaller than 35mm film and a full frame sensor. This means that APS-C cameras tend to be smaller and cheaper than full-frame cameras. In addition, the smaller sensor size gives the camera a crop factor, which we will discuss in detail below.
The size of a full-frame sensor is equivalent to that of a traditional 35mm film. They are larger than APS-C sensors. And full-frame camera users don't experience any cropping on their images. That's why they're called full-frame sensors. They capture the entire frame.
Because of the larger sensor size, full frame cameras are generally larger and heavier than APS-C cameras. They allow for higher megapixels. They allow for a higher megapixel count, better depth-of-field control and a wider dynamic range.
This year's camera trend is definitely mirrorless cameras with hybrid features. More people than ever are doing both photography and videography, and taking a more multimedia approach to their personal projects. This means having a camera that can do it all, so to speak. The choice now comes down to a matter of personal preference. Do you prefer the lens selection of one mount type over another? Can you sacrifice some speed for a higher megapixel sensor? Is full-frame essential, or do you prefer the portability and unique color science of an APS-C camera? Do you have the storage capacity and processing power for 6K footage or is 4K enough, or even HD?
